7 Things You Didn't Know About Näak Bars

Näak bars are taking the world by storm. A tasty energy bar with minimal and sustainable ingredients that gives you enough energy to stay active, what’s not to love? Many endurance athletes depend on the ubiquitous Näak bar for fuel during long runs or as a post-workout snack for muscle recovery. But there is more to these bars than just its tasty flavor, read on for 7 things you might not know about your favorite energy bars!

1. Cricket is a superfood!

It may surprise you that cricket powder is considered asuperfood since most superfoods include berries and seeds. However, edible insects are extremely nutritionally dense as they provide an excellent source of complete protein, antioxidants, polyunsaturated fatty acids, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. It’s no wonder that each Näak bar is packed with all sorts of important vitamins and minerals that help you with your performance. 2. We are made in Canada

At Näak, we strongly believe in the need for sustainable living and are always looking for new ways to reduce our environmental footprint. We are aware that transporting foods for long distances uses tremendous amounts of energy. This is why all of our products are made in Canada using Canadian ingredients and are produced right here in Québec. Our bars are made with free-range crickets raised atEntomo Farms, the largest insect farm in North America located in Ontario. The crickets are raised and harvested in the most ethical way possible with no additives or preservatives. We are proud to offer bars with local and eco-friendly ingredients!

3. Cricket is the most sustainable protein source in the world

Not only is cricket a superfood, but it’s alsoeco-friendly. Farming crickets requires way less resources than traditional livestock. To put it into perspective, 1 kg of beef requires 20000 liters of water, 1 kg of pork requires 3500 liters of water, 1 kg of chicken requires 2300 liters of water, while 1 kg of cricket only requires 10 liters of water. Additionally, cricket farming requires 13X less land, 12X less feed, and produces 100X less greenhouse gases compared to beef farming. Simply put, we won’t be able to continue getting ourprotein exclusively from traditional sources. Alternativeprotein sources like cricket protein will be an important part of solving long-term food and resource challenges.

4. One bar provides up to 50% of your daily B12

Cricket flour is packed with vitamin B12. Why is this important for endurance athletes? Well, vitamin B12 plays a role in producing and maintaining your red blood cells, nerve cells, and DNA. A deficiency in B12 can cause you to feel tired and weak, negatively impacting your performance. You can learn more about vitamin B12here! Thankfully, cricket powder contains B12 on a whole other level: 100 grams of cricket powder contains 24 micrograms of B12, that’s 1000% of your recommended daily intake! Of course, you don’t need that much, which is why ourenergy bars contain just up to 50% of your daily B12: a perfect amount.

5. They are offered in package-free alternatives

As previously mentioned, sustainability is constantly on our minds. Another way we have achieved this is by offeringunwrapped energy bars andcricket powder in bulk in order to reduce packaging. We are committed to a waste-free future!

6. Crickets contain calcium

Forget the myth that calcium comes from cows; cricket powder contains 1.6X more calcium than milk on a per weight basis! Because calcium plays a critical role in bone health and muscle contraction, it is important for endurance athletes who place daily stress on their bones.

7.Näak bars are made for athletes, by athletes

The idea for Näak bars was created by two ultra endurance athletes who wanted to improve their nutrition and minimize their impact on the environment. When they realized that no sports nutrition product met their criteria of performance, health, and environment, they set out to develop their own product. Soon enough, Näak bars were created! Acknowledging the importance ofproper nutrition in sports, the two ensured that the bars met endurance athletes’ needs in terms of energy and recovery, before, during, and after exercise. Now, thousands of professional and amateur athletes use Näak products to help fuel their adventures and redefine what is physically possible.
